Graphic Product Innovation - 2010/2011 Portfolio

Graphic Product Innovation

The title of the course may be confusing; after all it contains two words which conjure up very different and possibly separate activities. ‘Graphic’ implies graphic design with connotations of print or digital based communication while the term ‘product’ conjures up images of artefact design. ‘Innovation’ is defined in the Cox Review of Creativity in Business as “the successful exploitation of new ideas”.

Year 2 (2010/2011) encouraged my exploration and application of the skills and principles introduced in my first year as well as introducing me to additional concepts and practices. I was able to access relevant facilities and resources introduced in my first year and gained experience of working independently and collaboratively in the studio. I was offered experience of a broad range of media in both two and three dimensions and sought to challenge my preconceptions of what constitutes ‘graphic’, and ‘product’ and in doing so was encouraged to adopt an innovative approach to the development of ideas and concepts.

Enjoy!

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design - 2008/2009 Portfolio

Foundation Diploma in Art and Design

The aim of the Foundation Diploma in Art and Design was to provide me with the opportunity to explore and experiment within a wide range of project-based art, design and media-based activities in order to prepare me for progression into Higher Education art, design and media courses. The course enabled me to build on my existing skills, and offer new practical, critical and theoretical experiences, with an emphasis on drawing in its broadest interpretation. The course provides a structure to assist me in making informed choices for my future education and career.

The Foundation course draws on the expertise teaching within the following Pathway areas:

  • Graphic design
  • Film
  • Photography
  • 3D Design
  • Surface design

This portfolio is a combination of various projects done on this year-long course, designed to prepare me for art, design & media courses in higher education.

Enjoy.

Graphic Product Innovation - 2009/2010 Portfolio

Graphic Product Innovation.

The title of the course may be confusing; after all it contains two words which conjure up very different and possibly separate activities. ‘Graphic’ implies graphic design with connotations of print or digital based communication while the term ‘product’ conjures up images of artefact design.

‘Innovation’ is defined in the Cox Review of Creativity in Business as “the successful exploitation of new ideas” and “the process that carries them through to new products, new services”.

This portfolio book is a journey of year one, were i was guided through a multiplicity of practical and theoretical experiences, informed by subject expertise, contextual, professional and social awareness, were i am able to develop a creative language and broad visual and  theoretical vocabulary which is adaptable to the needs of specific audiences as well as enabling personal exploration and the pursuit of individual lines of enquiry.

Enjoy.
